MADD Delaware Joins Forces with Law Enforcement to Prevent Impaired Driving Ahead of Labor Day With “Saturation Saturday” Initiative This Weekend

[Wilmington, Delaware], August 18, 2026 — Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) staff and volunteers are partnering with the Delaware Office of Highway Safety and law enforcement in Delaware for “Saturation Saturday,” a powerful state and nationwide initiative to fight impaired driving this Saturday, August 29, 2026. The coordinated effort across multiple counties aims to save lives by intensifying impaired driving enforcement during one of the year’s busiest travel periods and in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
The initiative comes at a time of heightened urgency: Nationally, drunk driving claimed 451 lives during the Labor Day long-weekend period in 2024 alone, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), and drunk driving fatalities have increased by 3.2% in Delaware since 2019.
To help prevent these devastating tragedies, MADD Delaware is teaming up with Delaware State Police in all 3 counties (New Castle, Kent, and Sussex) as well as Wilmington Police Department, New Castle County Police Department, New Castle City Police Department, Camden Police Department, and Dagsboro Police Department to host Saturation Saturday events including increased DUI patrols.
Law Enforcement officers are often the first line of defense against impaired driving, with sobriety checkpoints reducing drunk driving deaths by up to 20%, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Saturation Saturday events also align with the annual National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which aims to educate people about the dangers and consequences of driving drunk and mobilizes its Labor Day high-visibility enforcement efforts in August and September.

Saturation Saturday brings together MADD, law enforcement, and highway safety partners to send a clear message: impaired driving is preventable, and every driver has a responsibility to make a safe choice. As Labor Day weekend approaches, we encourage Delawareans to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, use a rideshare or find another safe way home,” said Sharon Bryson, director of the Delaware Office of Highway Safety.
